  About the PGCE Primary MFL (Mandarin) Course:

-          Placements cover the full primary age range using a wide range of settings

-          Training includes all the foundation subjects.

-          Days in school focusing on inclusion including teaching pupils with English as an Additional Language.

-          All Warwick Primary PGCE students study a foreign language and receive primary foreign language training (French, Spanish or Chinese)

A small number of trainees may do an additional specialism in teaching Modern Foreign Languages in the primary school. The programme will involve doing a four week placement in Shanghai, in a Mandarin/English international school
Who should attend this course?
Candidates with a good level of Mandarin Chinese who wish to do the MFL specialist programme. High degree level qualifications are usually expected but candidates with significant experience or who are native speakers are welcomed.  Enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to try something different are equally useful qualities.
What are the entry requirements?
General PGCE entry requirements are: a first degree (at least a lower second); GCSEs in English, Maths and Science (grade C or above) or equivalents. Some experience in Key Stages 1 and 2 classrooms are expected so that you are familiar with the atmosphere and demands across the primary age phase.
How will you benefit from doing this qualification?
The qualification will give successful trainees a Qualified Teacher Status as well as 60 credits towards a future Master’s degree.
