Background:  Following on from previous  Summer/Autumn camps held in China since 2007, The Schools Network (SSAT) Confucius Institute will be partnering again partner with Hanban (The Office of Chinese Language Council International) to run a 2012 Autumn Camp for secondary students and teachers in England.

The New UK based Mandarin Common Entrance Exam

What is the UK based Common Entrance Exam?  The Common Entrance examinations are used for assessing boys and girls who transfer to senior schools at the ages of 11+ and 13+. The syllabuses are devised and regularly monitored by the Independent Schools Examinations Board, composed of representatives from the The Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, the Girls' Schools Association and The Independent Association of Prep Schools.

Improve your Chinese in China.  The British Council are now accepting for applications to become a Language Assistant teaching English in China. 

Where in China?   Posts will predominantly be in secondary schools across the country.

Posts are available in a number of provinces including Beijing, Chongqing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shanghai Tianjin,, Yunnan and Zhejiang. Your flexibility regarding location is encouraged. The list of locations is subject to change.

Speak to the Future: The Campaign for Languages – Let’s boost Language Learning in the UK (including Mandarin Chinese)!

What is the Campaign?   Speak to the Future is a new campaign with the support of over 30 organisations to address the UK’s flagging achievement in language learning. The campaign calls for urgent action on policy to safeguard and revitalise language learning across all phases of education in order to boost educational and career opportunities for young people and the UK’s ability to compete in the global economy. Campaigners have united to send a powerful public message highlighting the vital national importance of foreign language capacity in today’s global world.  The Speak to the future campaign is supported by the British Academy, the Chartered Institute of Linguists and a range of other organisations.

UK: Good news for Mandarin at Primary Schools?

Education Secretary, Michael Gove has announced proposals to teach languages to children from age five. 

Ahead of the October 2011 Conservative Party conference Gove aanounced that he promised to “pull every lever”, including encouraging longer school days, to make it happen.
