What is the CILT GTP? CILT’s recruitment for Mandarin Graduate Teacher Programme 2011- 12 (GTP for Mandarin) is now open for applicants who would like to be trained to get Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England and Wales and for schools who would like to be a programme training school.

UK, Education Secretary Michael Gove announces 1000 Mandarin teachers to train in UK over next five years

Education Secretary Michael Gove has announced a pioneering new partnership with China to train 1000 more Mandarin teachers for secondary schools in England.  During a visit to China to build stronger education partnerships with the Chinese. Mr Gove launched the joint programme between the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and Hanban (the Confucius Institute Headquarters). UK , London, New PGCE in Mandarin, Institute of Education

The Institute of Education (IOE), London University, is offering a PGCE course in Mandarin Chinese from September 2011, with up to 10 places per year for trainee teachers of Chinese.

The IOE is holding a meeting for schools at 2.30-4.30pm Wednesday 17th November to discuss the new PGCE.  The meeting is aimed at Headteachers, Heads of Languages, Partnership Co-ordinating Mentors, PGCE Subject Mentors and Teachers of Chinese.
The meeting will take place Room 675 at the Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London WC1H OAL.

Chinese as a supplementary language in the Engineering Diploma

The Independent and Evening Standard reported positive articles about how Mandarin could be taught within the new 'flagship' Diploma in Engineering to thousands of state school pupils. The plan is to pilot the diploma at Kingsford Community School in Newham. Bamboo Learning will be developing the programme.
